Jox off?
I was listening to the Thunder game on the radio last night and noticed that the Sports Animal station ID had grown by one: the last station listed was WKY, Oklahoma City.
Does this mean that Citadel is giving up on the Jox 930 format? (And did we need a fourth sports station at all?)
There exists a rumor of a new country station coming after Christmas, but do we need a fourth country station at all?

I just flipped on WKY to catch the station ID, and at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, WKY used their usual Jox 930 WKY station ID.
Perhaps they are now starting to simulcast the Thunder games on WKY. 930 does have a better nighttime signal than 640, especially to the north of the metro. I would think that it shouldn’t be necessary, since their 98.1 has a much improved signal over their old 97.9.
As far as country coming to 930, I suppose a classic country station might be okay. I think 930 would be a good home for a true oldies format, but they’ll never do it.
I wonder if they will put country on KZLS 99.7 when they complete its move-in from Enid. (I vote for a smooth jazz format, but nobody has asked me…)

I forgot to mention… Jox is also playing a different feed than Sports Animal, at least they are on Sunday afternoon. Jox is playing ESPN Radio news, while Sports Animal is broadcasting a football game.

Ostensibly, we have a smooth-jazz outlet: KOCD, 103.7. Good luck picking it up anywhere west of I-35.

You’re right… I’ve never been able to receive KOCD. I can, however, get in KVSP on 103.5. It seems to cover up any hope of getting in 103.7.
There are smooth jazz channels on XM, but is it worth the $13/month plus equipment to get it in at home and in my car?

Don’t need the first three either, as far as I’m concerned.

Well, it’s official: Jox 930 is dead.
No word on what will replace it; in the meantime, they’re taking the ESPN Radio feed.

I guess we’ll soon find out if KZLS 99.7 will be a fourth country station. Translator K259AM is being moved off of 99.7 this Friday, January 30. It will end up moving, in February, to the UCO campus at 100.1 FM. The translator K276EX, 103.1, will move from south of I-240 and Sooner to the top of the Chase building. It is supposed to replace the K259AM 99.7 signal and will start broadcasting on Friday, January 30.
Also worth mentioning is that there is now a translator at 96.5 that is rebroadcasting 890 AM KTLR. The Tylers have a STA for this purpose, stating that it will allow them to extend their locally oriented broadcasting beyond sunset. The problem is, once 890 signs off they switch on a feed of Business Talk Network on the translator. So much for extending locally oriented broadcasting.
Looks like the FM band in metro OKC just became a bit more overcrowded. We’re running short of places for translators!
