Just sit right back
William Keck reports in TV Guide that there will be stranding:
After 30 years of false starts, 92-year-old … creator Sherwood Schwartz claims his dream of a Gilligan’s Island feature film is finally coming true. He and son Lloyd Schwartz want Michael Cera (Arrested Development) for Gilligan and Beyoncé as sexy Ginger! At his induction into the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame, Sherwood said a deal “just happened in the past 48 hours. I can’t take this much excitement at my age!”
I dunno. Beyoncé doesn’t strike me as quite vacuous enough for full Gingerhood.
We’ve discussed this before, and if we didn’t reach a consensus exactly, we’re pretty sure Selma Blair should be Mary Ann. The proposal by Gradual Dazzle:
Gilligan: Erik Per Sullivan
Skipper: G. W. Bailey
Mr. Howell: Dan Aykroyd
Mrs. Howell: Shelley Long
Ginger: Lindsey Lohan
Professor: Ben Stiller
Mary Ann: Selma Blair
This could work, I think.

Hmmmm perhaps Sophia Bush as Mary Ann??
And maybe Jessica Simpson for Ginger (yeah, it’s a stretch). But everyone should be allowed the chance to strive for the next highest level in their abilities/talents in order to mature and grow . (*meeeeoooow*)

A stretch indeed. Jessica Simpson is on the short and curvy side, and one expects Ginger to be long and lean and, well, still curvy.
Still, it could be worse. Consider the Scooby-Doo movie, in which Velma was taller than Daphne. This is Just Not Done.

If Selma Blair were unavailable for the Mary Ann role, I think Zooey Deschanel would be a terrific substitute.

Zooey would certainly be more of a re-imagining of Mary Ann than simply a re-impersonation.
I find that if a re-imagining is done well it can be an improvement on the original. Even if done only passably well it can be, like “Tin Man,” a tolerable addendum to the franchise.
Oh, Zooey was in that too, wasn’t she? ;-)

Ben Stiller as the professor? Are you kidding? Of course, on the other hand, considering what the series did to Russell Johnson’s career (i.e., he was pretty much never in anything you’ve heard of after that), maybe putting Stiller in would be doing the world a favor.
