And on Austenbook, it would have to say something like, “The party which you have requested a friendship with has looked in your direction, looked away, and continued speaking with their actual friends” or some such.
(It is very hard to convey what used to be called a “cut” in verbage)

I’d add one that says “Look at new friend applicant, look at other friends, and burst out laughing.”
