Blundering heard

Britney Spears is sending a Sooper-Sekrit Message, says a group of the perennially perturbed:

The Parents Television Council is warning parents about the Britney Spears song “If U Seek Amy” and urging radio stations not to broadcast it because the nonprofit organization believes it “would violate the broadcast indecency law” if aired between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Saying the title phrase quickly out loud produces a sound akin to spelling out the F-word, said PTC president Tim Winter. “There is no misinterpreting the lyrics to this song, and it’s certainly not about a girl named Amy,” he said of the track, the third single from Spears’ new Jive album, Circus.

Where were these putatively-sensitive souls back in 1982 when April Wine put out a song called “If You See Kay”?

I don’t know whether to laugh at that story or whether to cry because of it.

I know I was an extreme innocent in my day, but seriously, what 11 year old today HASN’T heard that word – either in spelled-out form or its full four-letter glory?

If they don’t like it, they should glue their radio knobs so the thing’s always set on K-SNOOZE or whatever.

Poor Britney. Seeking Amy has gotten her in so much trouble already. You’d think she’d be gving Amy AND Kay a wide berth these days.

    If you see Kay,
    Tell him he may.
    See you in tea,
    Tell him from me.

Well, she is Mrs. Oh-My-God-That-Britney’s-Shameless, after all.

Wow, Spears’ management was actually smart enough to get the “parent groups” to do her advertising for her. I’m shocked.

If memory serves correct, Marilyn Manson did a tour in 1996-7 in which he didn’t have to give away a single ticket or spend a dime in advertising in promoting the tour. He just riled up the “parent groups” and those dummies did the rest for him, spending THEIR money and using their ire and their media connections to promote Manson’s concert dates, all of which sold out.

Saw them live. Twice. And then promptly forgot all about them, until now. :-)
