El Rushbo predicts

Rush Limbaugh’s prediction for the Super Bowl:

Cardinals are birds — innocent beasts of nature, struggling to survive as man encroaches upon their habitat. Steelers are big, polluting industrialists whose tactics have led to lung disease, global warming, and general filth. However, the Steelers are also Big Labor, rewarded just this morning at the White House. And birds have now become an enemy of polluting jets — consider the U.S. Air flight that landed in the Hudson.

So, with killing birds to protect union pilots and flight attendants now a federal project, and Big Labor being rewarded, the Steelers will exterminate the Cardinals for the good of America, and for economic stimulus.

In view of the above, I suppose we should be grateful it’s not the Chargers and the Packers.

Uh-huh. And Rush is the great expert/prognosticator of things related to the gridiron. Right. As a born and bred Browns fan, I cannot support the Steelers unless I want my daddy to come back from the grave and kick my you-know-what. If you knew my daddy, you’d be scared, too.

I’m gonna go watch Clint Eastwood at the movies instead.

I dunno. Using the “Lisa Simpson” method of prediction (based on who has the toughest mascot), I would say that the Steelers would win.

Then again, my interest in football is worth less than a protozoan’s waste, to quote another cartoon show.

I’m watching Puppy Bowl V. I’m rooting for the retrievers.

My method would be to tend to root for the more western team, which should be the Cardinals even before they moved to Arizona. However the Lisa Simpson principle also applies so instead I note that Pittsburgh was the gateway to the West back when my great great great grandfather was a pup.

…of course, I don’t remember if I’ve watched any Super Bowl since the one in 2000 that featured the Flaming Thumbtacks losing by the skin of a dog tick in the last seconds.

The steel industry was among the first to be outsourced to China. Native birds aren’t as easy to outsource. Cardinals.

Besides, no one has given that rag-tag band of misfits a chance the whole season, especially up against the old-guard royalty back East. Much like the American story.
