Google used to have a similar thing for Boston to Paris — out to the end of Cape Cod, then across the Atlantic. No idea if that still works or not.

And apparently Seattle-to-Honolulu is the only transoceanic crossing Google knows. Attempts to drive from anywhere in North Amwerica to Honolulu go to Seattle before embarking.

And attempts to go to any other continent simply fail.

Which means somebody at Google lacks imagination. Suppose one wanted to go from Fairbanks to Vladivostok? They could give directions to the Port of Anchorage, then say, “Wait until winter for the ocean to freeze, then dogsled across the Pacific Ocean.”
