Corkier than thou

Our correspondent in the Silicon Forest happened upon these, and I couldn’t let them go by without remark:

Summer by Via Spiga

“Summer,” it’s called, by Via Spiga, and it’s got an inch of cork platform underneath. (The heel rises to 4¼ inches, which is a heck of a rise.) The straps somehow don’t seem right: there’s this sort of Möbius-strip look to them, as though putting them on would propel everything from the ankle down into the Phantom Zone. And the whipstitching doesn’t help, says Drive-Thru Bossy:

Bossy could never wear these shoes without thinking a snake was crawling up her leg.

Whether this is worse than indulging General Zod’s foot fetish is left as an exercise for the student. Bloomingdale’s has these for $225.

Don’t know about snakes, this thing looks like it’ll leave bruises on tender parts.
No, even if Bloomingdale’s will pay me $225.

Oh, darn it! I like them. Good thing they’re $225. If they were affordable I might be tempted to buy them. I wouldn’t have to worry about blisters because I’d kill my darn fool self trying to walk in them.
