Not really, anyway. Just pinin’. Anyway, via Mr. Hill, a peek into the silent plague of badly-made, badly-displayed Texas flags. Flying it wrong seems easy, but making it wrong requires a greater commitment….

Back in the early ’80s when i worked at a radio station in Greenville, TX, I spied the flags at the elementary school down the street were both flying upside down. I stopped off at the school office to inform them of the fact, and that it was the international signal of distress. The lady at the counter said “honey, we’re always in distress around here!”

What I really love are the examples where the star is pointed the wrong direction relative to the color field. No way in hell to fly that one correctly.

BTW, I’d be surprised if at least some of those misflying the Texas flag aren’t from North Carolina: “Hey, Cledus, why’s this flag don’t have the letters “N.C.” on it?”

Actually the original bear flag was stitched together by a bunch of drunken miners (just before they stormed General Vallejo’s Sonoma rancho and declared California part of the US). Legend has it was flown upside down during that incident, as well as being so badly rendered that local Mexicans thought it was a pig.

This event is “recreated” annually on Sonoma Plaza by the Sons of the California Pioneers. They don’t seem overly bothered with historical accuracy as they seem not to emphasize the drunkenness and the upside down pig in their re-enactment.
