Quote of the week

Epic snark from Tam, as fate would have it:

We here at Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos, LLP would like to apologize for the error that occurred in our mailroom. It seems that a package intended for one “M. Jackson” was delivered to a “D. Carradine” by mistake. We sincerely hope that this hasn’t caused a loss of confidence in the normally excellent service provided by Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos, LLP, and we look forward to your continued patronage in the future.

Thank you,
Mgmt.

I hit guffaw level before I finished the second proper noun, which I guess means I haven’t completely forgotten everything they tried to drill into me back in the Sixties.

Whereas I had to look the names up, and was suitably rewarded. (That’s a hint, for those who may not have gotten it. It’s worth the effort.)

Wasn’t even my minor. We had to tackle this stuff in high school. Then again, that was a long, long time ago.

I picked it up from some fantasy story in the late seventies – but the author escapes me.

High school here as well. (I *think*. Might even have been earlier. They made us do a lot of mythology in junior high for some reason. Maybe they figured novels were too controversial.)

I have to say though that that’s one of the cleverer jokes that’s come out of this whole sad thing.

Jeffro, I think it was a fantasy series (Incarnations of Immortality) starting with “On A Pale Horse” by Piers Anthony…..

unimpressed – I’m sure you are right! I had a bunch of his books, some of which were pretty “out there.”

I wouldn’t have gotten it if I hadn’t been a self-taught mythology junkie when I was quite young. None of my grade school teachers taught any mythology–except for the Latin teacher who had once or twice muttered something random about Jove and Juno.

I discovered the whole Incarnations of Immortality series when I was twelve. Even then, I thought that was some strange stuff.
