No beef chow mein, though

Stumbled across at Pappy’s Golden Age Comics Blogzine: “Bentley of Scotland Yard,” from Pep Comics #1, January 1940, in which a werewolf of London is overheard in Mayfair, decades before Warren Zevon spotted one at Trader Vic’s.

Which of course makes me wonder: how likely is it that Zevon might actually have seen this comic? It’s dated seven years before his birth, so he probably wouldn’t have caught it on a newsstand, but somehow I get the feeling that he’d read a bunch of this faux-noir stuff alongside the genuine article. Damned shame we can’t just ask him, of course.

All that story needs is a large dog and some meddlin’ kids.

And, just what I needed – another time sucking site!

Warren left us far too soon.
