I only ate there twice, but I remember it well -- from doing the "car wash" to making the mistake of asking where the restrooms were.

Just did a quick Google search and found this site which mentions the book "Whatever Happen to Molly Murphy's House of Fine Repute". Will definitely have to pick that up!

There continue to be stories that Bob Tayar's widow might want to try the Molly's concept again, this time in Bricktown. I have no idea how much truth there might be to these stories, but I'm willing to bet the place would be a humongous hit from the first night.

You want to talk soulless? Ruby Tuesday used to at least have that phony "flair" thing going for it (just like Applebee's and TGI Friday's) back when my wife and I first visited one together ten years ago. Then sometime in the last couple of years they redecorated and now the inside looks for all the world like the in-house restaurant at some slightly-up-the-scale-from-families-on-a-sort-of-generous-budget hotel chain.

In fact, I've been in hotel-chain restaurants that have more pseudo-personality than Ruby Tuesday has now. She's gone from "who could hang a name on you" to making Ben Stein's character in Ferris Bueller's Day Off look like Charo.

Friday's has toned things down too, but not that much. Applebee's was the most staid of the bunch and now compared to the other two it's the one with the Goth makeup and body piercings in places best left to the imagination.

(Boomer Rule #73: if you must confess to patronizing soulless chain restaurants, at least be entertaining about it.)

OMG I had TOTALLY forgotten about Molly Murphy's, and I used to LOVE that place back in the 70s when I was growing up in southern OKC. Holy cats, that place was THE BEST. You always wondered which character your waiter was going to be, and you talked about it for a week afterward with everyone who knew you were going to get to go to MM's.

Soulless chain restaurants. Since we have no souls ourselves, we are drawn to these barren wastelands masquerading as fun eateries.
