Special one-time malus
By “malus,” I mean the opposite of “bonus,” and I expect to hear from the classicists out there for my horrid mangling of the language.
Anyway, Windows 7 will apparently cost more in Europe than it does here in the States:
Windows 7 Home Premium Full Version €120
Windows 7 Professional Full Version €286
Windows 7 Ultimate Full Version €300
No upgrade versions will be offered on the Continent. Windows 7 Ultimate Full Butt-Kickin’ Version will sell for $320 US, which is around €230; the Ultimate Full Total Control Upgrade Or Die Version is only $220 for Vista or XP users. (My old 98SE machine, currently shelved, will not be getting an upgrade.)
Then again, the North American releases will contain Internet Explorer; the European releases will not.
I note in passing that Mac OS X Leopard runs $129; Snow Leopard, which ships in September, will cost Leopard users $29.

Well, actually it’s not so mangled:

Malus to me is the genus which includes apple trees, of which we have a few in our yard.
(And as an aside, I have my name in already to be called when the Snow Leopard upgrade arrives.)

“Malus” always makes me think of apples.
No, really. (As canadienne already noted)..

And Apples, of late, run on Leopard. The cycle is complete.

Although, being a Mac fangrrl since 1986, I have to point out that using an Apple Macintosh is really a bonus…

Trini, despite her Microsoft certifications and all, is becoming a Mac fangrrl; I suppose I’ll follow her when this Wintel box finally dies.

As a bona fide classics major, I give your use of malus my nihil obstat.
