I vaguely remember something like that from the 1960s, when my dad gave up on trying to haul all of us around in domestics and started buying VW Microbuses. (I learned to drive in the second one, which may explain much about my vaunted “patience.”)

VW has been sending me Das Auto magazine ever since I bought my GTI. It's chock full of articles on new Volkswagens, people with Volkswagens, neat people doing cool things in and around Volkswagens-apparently there's a whole Volkswagenkulturzeitgeistvereinwelt out there I would never have known about otherwise.

The world is full of wannabes. Yahoo! Answers (which some of my readers are happy to deplore, and there are times I am inclined to agree with them) is full of people who say things like “I’m about to turn 16. Should I get a WRX STi or an Evo?” You know, deep down inside, the kid’s going to wind up with a ’99 Corolla, but there’s no point in saying so.
