Not dancing in the undark

My workday was cut short by lack of electrical power: something blew up on Oklahoma City’s northeast side somewhere, and OG&E is reporting about 7,000 customers without juice. Major locations listed are Forest Park and Arcadia, which tells me that this is mostly east of I-35 and north of maybe 23rd or so. (42nd and Treadmill falls easily into this area.) For a change, the emergency lights were working; however, my UPS seems to have reached its pull date, because it went into a coughing fit after maybe 45 seconds.

We had several months of intermittent power outages/surges. Apparently, it was raccoons. (At least, that’s what O G and E finally concluded, after the last major one). (And here we had been joking about, “Whoops, fried another squirrel”)

It totally ruined several of our UPS backups. (And several computers not hooked to them.)

We’ve replaced UPS batteries before; it is not fun, although it is not difficult. (Those suckers are heavy.)

Heh. We got our work-study student to do it. Apparently he got quite good at it by the time he was done. (I was glad I didn’t have to do it.)
