Hail Wanda!

My effort to persuade the state to adopt Wanda Jackson’s “Funnel of Love” as the State Rock Song was unsuccessful, but the Queen of Rock is doing just fine without me: earlier this year she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and today City Council voted to bestow her name on a Bricktown alley.

Wanda Jackson Way runs east and west between Oklahoma and Mickey Mantle, halfway between California and Reno, which puts it one block south of a stretch of Flaming Lips Alley. (Other musical types immortalized on the Bricktown street grid: Charlie Christian and Vince Gill.)

One thing (among many) that I absolutely loved about Oklahoma. All the signs announcing the birthplace or hometown of some celebrity, sports star, country music singer, etc.

Who needs Hollywood Boulevard when you can drive through the Sooner State?
