Knee-deep in Republicans
With Jeff Cloud ready to jump the Corporation Commission to run for the 5th District House seat being vacated by gubernatorial wannabe Mary Fallin, we now have no fewer than six Republicans with their hats in general proximity to the ring.
It’s not hard to see why, either: OK-5 is considered a safe Republican seat, and has been ever since John Jarman switched to the GOP in 1975, complaining that the Democratic caucus had been “taken over by liberals.” (An explanation no more likely, but probably more relevant: Mickey Edwards came pretty close to knocking Jarman out in ’74, and did win the seat after Jarman decided not to run again in ’76.)
I’m not quite sure how much I’ll miss Mary Fallin. To her credit, she voted against W.’s massive bailout bill last September, though she apparently had second thoughts for the second vote. And for being damned near as old as I am, she looks pretty darn good, though this of course is more or less required of Republican women of no significant consequence in the grand scheme of things. But with half a dozen me-too GOP guys chasing her seat, about all I can do is yawn and wait to see whom the Democrats come up with. Unfortunately for them, arguably the most interesting woman on the Democratic side these days, Brittany Novotny, is busy trying to unseat Sally Kern in State House District 84 and probably isn’t going to be a factor in the Congressional race. This year, anyway.

interesting “woman”….you can’t be serious. It’s about as “interesting” as Christine Jorgensen. I guess you frequent NASCAR events just to watch the crashes. Meh.

Wait a minute. There’s something to watch at NASCAR other than crashes?

There’s the cars making lots and lots and lots of left turns…

…without using their turn signals, yet.

I can see that any day on almost any major thoroughfare in town. And without beer commercials, either.

Fixed the fix.

“…without using their turn signals, yet.”
Ah, that explains it. The people in my town are just wannabee NASCAR drivers.

I note with some amusement that this piece is getting some attention from the Democrats of Oklahoma message board, largely for cheesecake value.
