When my kids were little, they always wanted to go to their dentist's house on Halloween because he gave out such huge amounts of the really good candy. As the children were leaving, he would cackle, "I'll be seeing you again soon!"

Someone sent me pictures from Nichols Hills, which truly was overrun with them.

The first three years I was here, hardly anyone came by. In 2008, the floodgates opened. I really do think they're bringing them in from across town, if only from the perceived demographics. Not that I care: my job is to act scared and hand out the goodies.

I had one group last year (two adults and three wee ones) and only one wee one with an adult this year. I don't understand it. I assumed when I bought this place that I would surely be overrun with trick or treaters. One year I noticed that the entire block was lit up and not one soul came down it at all.

Castle McGehee made it through the night without an ounce of candy on the premises. Mainly because we made ourselves scarce.

Absence breeds abstinence.

Depending on the candy (chocolate probably would not work so well), there might be a way to dispose of it: I heard of a dentist in Ardmore who is apparently paying a $1 a pound "bounty" on candy (a ploy to protect kids' teeth, I assume) and he is going to send it overseas to the troops. Maybe other folks are collecting candy for similar purposes.

I have perhaps 12 ounces of candy left. I got fairly generous toward the end, just to get rid of some of it.
