Pronoun trouble
Most newspapers will accept, and occasionally print, Letters to the Editor; a few others will also accept voice messages from readers. I like the idea, generally, but it has its drawbacks, as Fishersville Mike notes:
Unfortunately, speaking a rant into the phone may not work out on the printed page. A punctuation mark may be missed. You may rant a little too long.
Like this recent rant [in Charlottesville's C-Ville weekly] about giving shelter animals to the elderly:
I think they should be given to elderly people to keep them company so that they have company so that they need less services but they should all be spayed or neutered.
One might reasonably ask: “Who is this ‘they” of whom you speak?” And one might keep one’s eye on the family jewels, just in case.
(Title obviously from here.)

I’ll bet “they” are the ones who always say things people like to quote.
If so, spaying and/or neutering is too good for ‘em.

Thanks for the link. Please don’t spay or neuter bloggers.

“They” said you’d feel that way. ;-)
