Getting one’s swerve on

I believe this to possess at least a semblance of the ring of truth:

For me, driving fast is a stress-reliever. There is nothing like a high-speed three-lane freeway swerve — jump from the left lane over to the right, zooming past the trundling herd, then hooking it back to the left — to cure what ails you.

The next section, alas, is a tad more problematic:

You want to improve America’s health? Repeal the speed limit. Your average German smokes two packs a day but lives to be 93 because, whenever things get a bit too tense, he can hit the Autobahn doing 114 mph and not have to worry about dodging the police.

Your average German, however, has had some serious driver training, as distinguished from the standard American variety, in which basically you promise to learn how to parallel-park some day; you run 114 mph through Meth Valley and you’re going to get an object lesson in Advanced Darwinism, and not the good kind, either.

I have no doubt letting people drive 114 mph on the interstates will prevent a lot of people from dying of cancer and heart disease. Also old age.

I came within a few feet of being killed by someone pulling a very similar maneuver, so hopefully i can be forgiven for being a bit less amused by this than one might think.

Speed, maybe; in & through traffic, not so much… And driver training should be much more serious everywhere.
