you’re allowed a certain amount of leeway, provided you don’t do horrible things like speak glowingly of NASCAR or eat pork rinds.
Welp, I’m screwed. No halls of power or ear of the influential and wealthy for me!

I think perhaps one of the issues is that we have conflated “smart” and “wise.”
I know some very “smart” people who are extremely lacking in the “wisdom” department.
I wouldn’t necessarily want someone smarter than I was as a leader, but I’d hope my leader was wiser than I am.

Beyond the smarts and wiseness of a leader is the ability to lead. IQ and experience don’t necessarily confer this.
