The outskirts of hell
Hell, opined Sartre, was “other people.” I try to narrow it down a little more.
Peak turmoil
“If you love somebody,” said Sting, ungrammatically, “set them free.”
Well, screw that.
Thoughts they cannot defend
A late lament for the top of the food chain, a place we used to embrace.
Fake Steve on real problems
Yes, he’s always talking & talking. (And profanely, so this is probably not safe for work.)
Mike and Christine
Which is a follow-up to “The girl in the locker room”, one I’d never expected to write.
Quarterlife
If you were born yesterday, this is six hours. Me, I’m 56 years old, and I look it.
Organ grinding
Not the activity of street musicians many decades ago, but the process by which the demand for sex tapes is met. I think I liked the musicians better.
The Killeen field
Major Hasan: holy warrior or self-centered dipshit?
Discredit to the race
“But our business model requires that we stick it to our customers!”
Um, no, actually, it doesn’t. Especially if you’d like to retain any of them after this cute little recession of yours is over.
Feed changes
Some months back, in an effort to annoy scrapers and such, I tacked a copyright notice onto the bottom of the RSS feed. I have now begun supplementing this with a tracking image, which may or may not annoy them further. I am, however, telling you this up front.
I’ve also dropped 3WC from the feed, since almost no one but scrapers will bother with it. (Much of the stuff that’s being 3WC’d is being tweeted anyway.) There are, however, a few hardy souls who come here just for The Vent, and now that each Vent has a corresponding post to go with it, I’ve decided to set up a separate feed for just those posts, at http://www.dustbury.com/?cat=49&feed=rss2. This should arrive on the same schedule as before, but without dropping all 600-plus accumulated links on you every time.

Illinois abatement
A citizen initiative in a state that generally doesn’t allow citizen initiatives. What will they think of next?
We’ve got the power
Well, we’ve got the potential for it; we could theoretically power the whole state with our own renewable resources. One of them, anyway.
Random rants
Okay, they’re probably not all that random, but they are short, which ought to be worth something. Or maybe not.

The elder statesman
How I bestrode blogdom like a Colossus, and other fictions and fabrications.
Life sucks, let’s make some art
If you’re happy and you know it, shut your trap.
Your automotive questions answered!
And to tell you the truth, you’d be much happier if you’d just RTFM already.
Woodstock: the balance sheet
We are stardust, we are golden, but mostly, we are profitable.
