Bumper mulch

A Roseburg, Oregon woman was injured when she crashed her 1971 riding mower into a parked van this week.

In addition to suffering a broken leg, Kirstina Burkhart was written up by police for careless driving and driving without insurance.

Two questions:

  1. You need insurance for a riding mower (okay, it was in the street at the time) in Oregon?
  2. How the heck do you get one of these contraptions to last thirty-five years?

You left out a word that probably answers those and other questions: modified...

Well, the story indicated that there was a modification to the steering, but this explains neither the presence of the mower on the street (unless she fell right out of her yard) or its longevity.

Question number 3: Who knew that lawn mowers had model years?

I honestly can't ever recall seeing the year of manufacture cited in a discussion of lawn mowers unless it was in reference to durability or reliability.
