Things I learned today (9)

Inevitably, it being still fairly early in the day, this list will include some things I actually learned yesterday, and possibly the day before that. (As George Carlin says, the day after tomorrow is the third day of the rest of your life.)

More when I feel like I need to post but don't actually have any material.

You can't trust just anyone to do a proper Brazilian.

So, ask 'em how many they've done, and if they answer, "Brazilians!"...

Re the Mohammed bobblehead: have you seen the Buddy Christ action figure?

Haven't seen that one yet. Is it dashboard-mountable?

On the lack of 20 game winners: The argument Bill James and others make (well, the "others" are yours truly) is that it doesn't make sense for pitchers to both pitch fewer innings per start and start less frequently than they used to. There's no reason to think these changes have cut down on pitchers' injuries, for one thing.

What's resulted is a proliferation of lousy relief pitchers, as teams carry more pitchers (teams are stuck with the now-archaic 25 man roster) to compensate for the fact that starters go less deep into games. This accumulation of rotten relievers may be the biggest reason for the increase in hitting in the last few years.

Don't know about the dashboard, but I have seen one stuck on a pulpit after hours with 2 sided carpet tape.
