11 November 2006Finally, a truly universal lawThe St. Louis Post-Dispatch engages in serious contemplation:
A 26 percent increase in Missouri's minimum wage to $6.50 an hour will hit urban and rural workers hardest because some may lose their jobs or not be hired as businesses adjust to hold down costs, some business owners and analysts say.
Got that? "Urban and rural workers" will be hit hardest. That leaves um, who else is there? The guys on the International Space Station? (Via the presumably-urban Brian J. Noggle.) Posted at 12:21 PM to Say What?No no no. They left off Urban's first name, which is "Keith." It could have been Pope, but Herr Ratzinger opted for a name more beneficent than urbane. Posted by: McGehee at 3:39 PM on 11 November 2006Keith Urban's going to be hit? Won't that piss off Nicole Kidman? (I am loath to annoy someone who had the temerity to dump Operating Dorkan Tom Cruise.) I don't know which of the three of you is the most droll. Posted by: Goof Beyou at 3:44 PM on 12 November 2006Given that the prices of most fast foods have increased about 25% since the last minimum wage hike despite food costs and overhead holding almost stable, I'd say a 26% increase is just about right. Pay the people what they're worth. You're get more work out of them and you're less likely to get shot when they snap from pressures due to being underpaid. Posted by: Dan B at 4:11 PM on 12 November 2006Humans are priceless; ergo, you cannot put a price on their labor, and should not pay them at all. Or, I guess, you can rely upon arbitrary minimums established by those who don't deduce what the laborer is actually worth and who won't actually have to pay it. Spoken like a true Republican advocating slave labor. Just another reason I left the GOP back in 2002. Posted by: Dan B at 11:46 AM on 13 November 2006 |
