5 January 2007I'm happy just to have it defrostSamsung is showing a refrigerator equipped with RFID. What for, you ask?
[I]t does manage to keep a close [watch] on the amount of food remaining in your refrigerated containers. Moreover, this eagle-eyed fridge will purportedly be able to send a shopping list [to] the owner's cellphone or directly to the supermarket when it detects your milk, juice, eggnog, or assortment of critical condiments are reaching dangerously low levels. As if this wasn't enough to lay down a pre-order, it will supposedly offer up recipes to users as well based on what's currently residing in your fridge.
God only knows what this will cost:
[T]here's no (presumably lofty) pricetag attached to this pipedream just yet, but it is slated to hit retail floors "around 2008 or 2009," and maybe they'll enable it to physically visit the grocery store and shop for you in the meantime.
Can it tell a good tomato from a bad one? And, perhaps just as important, will it flirt with the checkout girls? "Will it flirt with the checkout girls?" No, but there's this cute little bar code scanner I've had my eye on... Posted by: Mister Snitch! at 10:06 AM on 5 January 2007No. Not a chance am I buying a refrigerator that'll get out more -- and get more action -- than I do. Posted by: McGehee at 10:28 AM on 5 January 2007Does it come with an educated eggdicator? As for the price ... if the thing will tell me who keeps drinking all but the last drop of milk and putting the carton back in instead of just finishing the freakin' thing, it'll be worth every penny. Posted by: robohara at 2:37 PM on 5 January 2007Better yet, it will deliver an when you try to put tomatoes in the refrigerator. It's a culinary no-no. Posted by: Dan at 10:15 PM on 6 January 2007Just try putting something besides butter in the Butter keeper. You haven't been dressed down until you've been dressed down by a fridge in Japanese.
