23 February 2007Advantage: Lampoon!I was waxing semi-lyrical today about National Lampoon's infamous Sunday Newspaper Parody, a complete edition of the Dacron (Ohio) Republican-Democrat which, incidentally, has been reissued and in the process, I gave special attention to the Swillmart ("Where Quality Is A Slogan") advertising flyer by Bruce McCall. I ran a Google search for possible Swillmart images, and came up with this. And then, just because, I ran the text search for Swillmart, and Google responded: Did you mean: walmart
Feel free to write your own joke. That one's great! Most of us think there is some hidden truth to the Wal-Mart thing, but most of us just keep on shopping... No way I can top that one. More recently I've come to understand that the "monopoly newspaper owned by a powerful local family who uses their publication to advance their own business interests" is a fairly widespread phenomenon.
