Friday on my mind

You may remember this story from Wednesday; I suggested that the blog where I found it might not be safe for work.

The blogger responds to this characterization:

In today's conservative social climate, it's going to take a long, long time before anyone can proclaim to the boss, "Can I get off early on Friday? Our naturist resort is having family night."

Well, "anyone," maybe. I don't know if I can pull this off, so to speak, or not, but this is more likely due to the fact that I usually have to work late on Friday than to any particular fear of bringing up the subject.

More to the point, I'd hate to go to "family night" by myself.

My use of the word "our" clearly implies that the fictional employee was not going to family night alone...it did not seem to be necessary to flesh out the details. The point being made by both you and myself is that not too many business owners or supervisors would be understanding of an employee using company computer time to browse nudist web sites. Nudism/naturism is still a highly misunderstood lifestyle.

Hence the reference to "possibly not safe for work." And I concede that I would not likely read, say, the AANR Bulletin at my desk, if only because there exist people who would exhibit the same level of outrage were they to see me reading Oriental Wet Snatch Quarterly, despite the obvious qualitative and contextual differences.
