A seriously long haul
File under "Boy, I couldn't do that": Ann Althouse drives from Austin. Texas to Madison, Wisconsin in one day.
That's 1235 miles, half again as long as my single-day record. (Albuquerque, New Mexico to Redondo Beach, California, April 1988, 806 miles by my odometer.) And I was absolutely exhausted when it was over, thirteen hours after it had started. It is worth noting that on no day during any of the World Tours did I log more than 600 miles. At my present state of (d)evolution, I figure that even if my nerves don't give out, my bladder will.

I don't know how far I could make myself drive with no one else along; the farthest I think I've ever driven in one day was 600 miles or so from Coweta County, GA to Caroline County, VA and that was with my wife along to help me stay awake in exchange for making the rest stops take longer than I would have needed.
We spreaded the return trip over two days, though.
My longest is around 800, which I've done several times, either going to New York, or Miami, or back. It's always easier when I'm alone. A car full of passengers who don't drive make it miserable.
My one-day record is just under 750 miles, from Abilene TX to Winslow AZ. But that came after the 300+ miles from north Houston to Abilene the previous night, and the 800 more miles to San Francisco CA in the next two days.
Love driving, hate traffic...
