Teacher, teacher, I declare

Communistic fashion-wear:

The first time I see a Che t-shirt at this school, I will be hauling the wearer to the office. I'm sick to death of murderer-worship. It would be no different than if someone wore a Bundy or Gacy shirt.

Suggestion: 500-word essay on "Why it is important to honor the memory of a disreputable thug."

"The first time I see a Che t-shirt at this school, I will be hauling the wearer to the office."

Most schools retain the right to enforce a dress code, and to censor student communications. There are good reasons for this. But it IS still censorship, no way around that. So do it if you must, but just be upfront about what you are doing.

I think mockery works pretty good. "Oooh, look at little Mister Subversive. Aren't you daring, wearing your grandma's old hippie shirt." Etc. Are teachers still allowed to mock and belittle students? Probably not, more's the pity. Nowadays they probably have to boost up their pathetic little egos. Glad I decided never to be a teacher.

I mean "their students' pathetic little egos." I should not attempt to curmudge while I'm on sinus medication.

Yea, verily. And while we're explaining this, we can ask the shirt owner, "What do you truly know about this person, other than the fact that he looks like Pete Doherty on a two-week bender?"

What about a shirt with an image of George W. Bush, who's caused the death of a lot more people than Che Guevera ever did? Just sayin'...

Keep up that Kos Kid parroting, rena.....how about a shirt with FDR's picture?

Or Truman's... Rena, I'm afraid that we can't elect My Little Pony for president. We have to stick with humans.

Sometimes I wear one that features the visages of Hitler, Mao and Stalin - it reads: "Mass murderers agree - Gun control works!" Shout out to Infowars.com for that tee.

I think Andrea has hit it on the nose. Let the kids wear what they want. Then have them stand up in front of the class and make them justify it, and/or have teacher instruct the class re just who Che (or Mao or whoever) really was. Much better than banning the clothing choice, which only makes the wearers look cool to their peers. Instead, single them out for some extra education and watch the self-censorship take over.

Oh, um, and Chaz also hit the nail on the head. After Andrea did. But he did indeed hit it squarely.

Always give props to the blog owner.
