The Finch Formerly Known As Gold

Rhymes with "flake-o"

Because Tamara K. says it so much better:

On this date in 1993, the BATF raided the facilities of a fringe religious group outside of Waco, Texas on the suspicion that some of the 150 firearms on the premises might fire more than one round with a single action of the trigger without having first paid the appropriate $200/gun federal tax.

(As a PS: Only 150 guns and 8,000 rounds of ammo? I thought those folks were supposed to have an arsenal or something.)

Not what you'd call one of our finest hours, and worse, it reputedly provided motivation for malingerers.

I happened to be in England during the siege, and was amused (this was before the gruesome denouement) to hear the BBC announcers pronouncing the name of the city as if it were Wacko.

I have a cousin with a larger arsenal than that.

If the FBI is reading this, he lives about 200ft NW of the center of T8N-R20E-Sec34, just east of Kinta OK. Please pick him up forthwith, he is a public nuisance.

I was in Waco during the Davidian stand-off. Hotels were very hard to find, but we were treated like royalty. It was the only great producer of cash that city had ever seen. I will refrain from making any more personal comments on this subject.

Besides Dr Pepper, what else do they have? (This is, I think, one reason I'm pushing for this NBA stuff even though it runs up against my political preferences: I'd just as soon we were known for something other than tornadoes and Timothy McVeigh.)
