Traveler's remorse

Megan Wallent calls the front desk:

"Hi, this is Janelle, can I help you?"

"Hi Janelle, this your favorite guest from room 723. I really hate to complain so much, but, um, I was just walking down the hall and noticed that all of the smoke and heat detectors in the hall are covered up by what appears to be shower caps and tape. I'm pretty sure this isn't ok."

"Uh huh."

"Did you happen to see the news last week, where the Monte Carlo hotel in Vegas caught on fire during renovation, and they had to evacuate it?"

"No, I didn't see that."

"Janelle, I really don't want to be served crispy."

The matter was addressed quickly enough, but there's just a hint of "What were they thinking?" that isn't going away any time soon.

Or they could just wrap the hotel in plastic sheeting and kill the occupants with carbon monoxide.

They were probably painting the hallways - as she said there was a renovation going on - and the painters prepped the perimeter.

When our house was new the smoke detector in the unfinished basement went off in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. Turns out the crawl space was flooded and the very high humidity set off the alarm. I suspect they were protecting the alarms from concrete dust or something. Of course, that also protects them from smoke.
