Review

Part whimsical, part deadly serious, Assholes: A Theory is a mostly penetrating look at the rectally-oriented among us, with perhaps the first ever workable definition of the term: the asshole “allows himself to enjoy special advantages in social relations out of an entrenched sense of entitlement that immunizes him against the complaints of other people.” The book is mostly dead-on, though the author wanders a bit in an effort to come up with a lengthy complaint about “asshole capitalism,” which is at least consistent with his Rawlsian concerns for social justice.
