This collection of essays, which I suspect did not meet its original submission deadline, is pleasingly scholarly in its approach to this universal human practice, and there is marked disagreement among the authors as to the source of the problem and its solution, if any. To that extent, it must be counted a success, if only because it so successfully mirrors reality. It is not a pop-culture self-help book: it is not How To Stop Procrastinating … One Of These Days. What it is, however, is a detailed look at what we value, and how we shuffle those values in an effort to persuade ourselves that we are maximizing the benefits therefrom — and how we fail at so doing.
