Review

This book apparently aspires to be the hardcover automotive edition of Snopes.com, which isn’t at all a bad thing to be, given the vast quantity of misinformation that clutters up the automotive landscape. And besides, Lerner and Stone are hellaciously good storytellers, so even dull techie stuff like the whole “unintended-acceleration” debacle becomes readable, and the drawn-out tale of the first Indianapolis 500 — was the wrong driver proclaimed the winner? — is utterly compelling. If there’s a volume of History’s Second Greatest in the offing, I’m ready.
