The "Grey Area"

We've all seen them: CDs seemingly from out of nowhere that seem to contain a whole bunch of hits and nonhits you've been looking for but never seemed to find. Sometimes you can find licensing information of a sort, and sometimes you figure that this is basically someone's record collection on a CD. A CD-R, even. In the good old days, the Both Sides Now stereo newsletter would tip you off to these things and to the legitimacy thereof; however, with Mike and Brenda retiring, a void has been created, and this space doesn't even begin to take its place — but here we go anyway, even borrowing the format.

If you have a CD of odd provenance and you'd like to share the gory details with passersby, write them up and send them to greyarea@dustbury.com.
