Nudists are, you should pardon the expression, not highly visible in American society, and I had no idea there was such a thing as “nudist fiction” — and if I had had such an idea, I’d probably assume it was some indifferent-at-best sexploitation hackwork. The “Volunteer” is nothing of the kind; it’s a perfectly serious story about a college girl caught out for plagiarism, who is offered an opportunity to have her record expunged — by spending the rest of the semester naked, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Feeling as though she has no choice, she accepts the deal. The book began as a tale on the Literotica web site, though really, it’s not all that erotic; the young lady does eventually find a boyfriend, and they do end up in the sack, but at no time does the book descend to the level of wank material. And the author actually draws on his own experience: in his younger days, he’d been a figure model, so he’d definitely know what it’s like to have a bunch of people you don’t really know looking at your nude body. Recommended to anyone who’s ever had second thoughts about flashing the pizza guy.
