Miriam Sawyer is a retired librarian, and what’s more, she’s a retired Jewish librarian. (She’s also a retired Jewish librarian who paints, and some of her work can be seen at http://miriamspaintings.blogspot.com/.) She’s run a blog for the last dozen years, though she’s spent rather a lot of time, in her estimation, recovering from this disease or that. It’s never affected her voice, which remains perfectly deadpan, wrapped in wry. Nothing Much pretends to be a rather insignificant narrative, but the story of an extended family which sometimes doesn’t seem like it wants to be a family is something almost any reader can relate to.
