Not a movie-script ending

This is most likely not the result of my shooting off my mouth, but I am disturbed by it anyway:

It is a sad day in indie town: Actress/singer/New Girl Zooey Deschanel, 31, and Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard, 35, have announced the end of their two-year marriage.

The duo’s split was confirmed to US Weekly by a rep; a source says that the parting is amicable, and involves no third parties.

(Title inverted from here.)

You should be encouraged, not disturbed. Rejoice and plan your tactic

I am never happy to see a marriage unwind, even Kim Kardashian’s.

Oh please. Kim’s was a publicity move. Right out of 1930’s Hollywood studio scenarios.

Anything Kim does could be considered a publicity move: this is how she makes a living, after all. I’m still not going to snark at her about it.

And I’m not going to pretend this stunt makes me sad.

I am more saddened by the further erosion of the institution of marriage by a pulicity whore than I am her pain.

Now young Zooey and Ben? Whole ‘nuther story. Too bad they couldn’t make it work.

    What Jeffro said.

I don’t know, these days I find myself frequently running the lyrics from “What Chance Have I with Love” (Irving Berlin) in my head.

There are times when I think that song spurred someone to shoot a man in Reno, just to watch him die.

OK, on the risk of appearing older and more cynical than all of you combined, I’ll say “pffft, LOVE! LOVE and Kim K with her world-transmitted product-placement wedding and paparazzi-posing! doe not compute. And if I hear it right, she’s now insulting the people who sent her wedding gifts by giving all their presents (money included) to some charity. What a parvenu!”
I will also say – only people who are outside have illusions about a thing. Like people who have not been married, tending to have very high ideas about marriage.
    There, cue rotten tomatoes.

Wait — are you all telling me this “Kim” isn’t a character from “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”?

    Different degree of Harryness.

Heh. Somehow I knew that was going to get redirected to “Star Trek: Voyager.” But not until I had already clicked “submit comment.”
