Traffic uncalmed

One might wonder why it’s there in the first place, but knowing why probably does not help the situation:

And were it not for the Internationally Approved Sign, I could imagine this somewhere in the American South.

One of my most beloved sights since moving to Georgia is a jacked-up 4WD truck or SUV stopping dead at a speed bump, and crawling over it like Hannibal crossing the Alps.

Invariably, regardless what I was driving, I would wait until the summit was made and traversed, then run over the Alps at 25 mph.

Austin, Texas has several of these, much broader than usual, scattered at random intervals along Duval Street, north of the UT campus. Hard to work up any rhythm under those circumstances.

Generally, speed bumps are not supposed to hinder the swift passage of emergency vehicles. Granted said veeks tend to have a more robust suspension than your typical Honda Civic, but properly addressed they shouldn’t require a base camp and a platoon of Sherpas.
