I’ve never quite understood why Maserati didn’t just cut Walsh a check and promote the hell out of this particular speed, which is attainable by most of its cars these days. (The piker of the line is the Levante sport-utility vehicle, which maxes out at around 165.)

I did, back in the Seventies, get some driving time in an actual Quattroporte, which is Italian for exactly what you think it is; had it not been four times the price of workaday family sedans — well, never mind, that wasn’t going to happen.
