The Z Man washes his hands of those wacky libertarians:

Anyone who truly believes altering tax policy will reverse a thousand generations of evolution is an idiot.

That’s the fundamental problem with modern libertarians. They believe this or they simply are incapable of mastering ground floor level biology. The reason the country of Niger is a basket case is that’s the way the people of Niger want it. It is full of Hausa. The reason Paris was Paris was that, up until recently, it was full of Parisians! Now that Paris is filling up with North Africans and Arabs, it is looking like Algeria with better plumbing.

It may turn out to be that the last vestige of France as we know it may be in the Légion Étrangère; the Foreign Legion has always had a minority of actual Frenchmen, but French officers were always in command.

That some place or institution or system is dysfunctional is not proof that “that’s the way the people [there] want it”; it could be a coordination failure as explained by Scott Alexander:

Z is putting too much faith in the idea that culture is a product of evolution. It can also be a product of stupidity and arrogance.

Kind of like what he displays in that rant.

Z forgets that libertarianism is also a product of evolution – i’d say, the best product there is, the essence of whole body of civic thought.

And taxes are the opposite – I mean, product decisively not of evolution, but of enslavement of free people by government thieves (be it a monarchist government of republican).
What’s conceived by humans, can be demolished by humans. Taxes is the most desirable subject for this demolition.

It’s so easy to collectivize and slander others from behind an anonymizing moniker. Reason 462,317 why I always go by my full and correct name.

    1. Francis, I admire your transparency.
    2. As for taxes ‘enslaving’ everyone, I sympathize with the angst of watching your government throw money down a sinkhole. On the other hand, we do need our public services. What are you gonna do? The Finns, who tax themselves to death, consistently top the ‘happiest country’ statistics.

FWP has about the lowest ratio of minced to non-minced words of anyone I’ve read in recent years.
