Where did that come from?

“The memories of a man in his old age,” sang Pink Floyd, “are the deeds of a man in his prime.” I would aver that sometimes they’re the deeds, or the attitude, of a kid not even imagining manhood yet.

I used to pull a cookbook off the shelf (I tend to prefer those with chatty narratives around the recipes anyway) and read it while eating (because of convenience; my dining room is where my cookbook bookshelves are).

Of late, I’ve been carrying the laptop in there and either reading Twitter or trying to do my daily language practice while eating. This may well come to grief as it’s not impossible I could wind up upsetting a glass of milk onto the laptop…

I think many eat-alones have ways of distracting themselves from the fact that they are eating alone.

When I was a kid, I’d read the cereal boxes – riboflavin!
If I’m alone, I’ll read the newspaper, but my family seems to frown on this.
