Generation landslide

It’s 2018 and (1) here’s Alice Cooper (2) in a commercial for Dodge:

You gotta love it to death, man.

Kind of reminds me when Alice Cooper did a cameo role in Wayne’s World.

I suppose it’s me getting old, but a lot of the pop-culture things that were seen as deeply transgressive when they were first “out” seem quite tame now. I was thinking the other day how people were declaring how “Beavis and Butthead” was the clear end of Western culture back in the 90s when it was on TV, and now it seems tame compared to some other things.

(Then again: I remember my then-60-something parents, college educators themselves, laughing at Beavis and Butthead. They didn’t care so much for the videos that interlarded the clips, but…yeah)

The best way to get revenge on “transgressivist” pop culture is to enjoy it out loud.

For what it’s worth, Dodge sent out a second version of that commercial, probably on the basis that what’s the point of bringing on Alice Cooper if he doesn’t have a boa constrictor?

Didn’t think much of Alice, or Led Zep back in the day. I’ve since found a ‘strange new respect’ for both. I’d go so far as to consider them both prog-rockers. And me being a prog-rock fan….
