State of the State of the Union

A sad state indeed:

All that is ever accomplished by having 99% of the top leaders of federal government (except for randomly chosen Designated Survivors) gathered together in one place every January so that the President can give a speech, is that statecraft gives way yet again to stagecraft. Put a stop to it.

Then again, if you can assemble much of the Deep State operation for a couple of hours, you’ve got your excuse to nuke the place from orbit.

The other thing that it accomplishes is making people who might want to watch some network show at the timeslot it’s on, grind their teeth in frustration.

I have never in my life voluntarily watched a SOTU. I might have been forced to once or twice for Civics class in school, but I promptly forgot whatever was said.

I used to watch the SOTU religiously as a rite all Americans should do, like voting.
    Last year I passed.

As I concluded in my post, it’s an American spin on the Speech From The Throne — which is out of place in a republic.
