I was a Navy brat, so “gale” to me means high sustained winds, something I see a lot of here in Oklahoma, although I’ve seen winds far in excess of gale force: the massive tornado outbreak in central Oklahoma, ten years ago this week, is generally believed to have reached F5 status, though by the time it got to my neighborhood, it was down to F4, a mere 333 kilometers per hour.
