This guy is Finnished

Esko Kiesi, head of sales for Audi’s operation in Finland, has resigned after insulting roughly half the population: the half with breasts.

Der Spiegel has the story, and Bertel Schmitt at The Truth About Cars translates:

In an interview with the Finnish woman’s magazine, Anna, Audi’s Finnish sales chief revealed that “Technical jobs can’t be mastered by women without the help of a man.” And that was one of the more benign statements. In a woman’s magazine.

Women are a bit like cars, quoth Kiesi, “the looks of a car are very dependent on the wheels and the suspension. With women, it’s shoes.” In the world according to Kiesi, “a woman loses her shape if the heels are lower than 7 centimeters.”

As far as relationships go, “if a woman refuses to iron and clean up the house, the relationship is coming to an end.”

Trini, who (1) knows PC hardware a hell of a lot better than I do (and I’m pretty good at it), (2) has a pretty interesting shape, and (3) won’t wear heels anywhere near 7 cm, would guffaw at this. And then she’d go clean up the house, mostly because her roommate is +6 Slob.

Audi tried to distance themselves from this, exactly the way they didn’t try to cover for Audi North America boss Johan de Nysschen when he said last week that Chevrolet’s upcoming Volt was “a car for idiots” and will die in the marketplace. De Nysschen still has his job, and if every idiot in the country were to buy a Volt — well, GM will still probably lose money on every single one, but they’ll make it up in volume, or something.

And lest anyone’s forgotten, the U.S. taxpayer is a majority stockholder in this train wreck of a company.

7 cm? Only 7? Some people and countries have no feel for fashion!

(I look like a stick-figure even with 13 cm heels on, but still, Finns, let’s try to “keep in step” with the times!)

Huh. And here everyone tells me how much more “enlightened” the Scandinavians are than we.

As for the house cleaning thing: I tend to be of the opinion that either (a) the person who is more bugged by clutter/dust should be the one to do it (Which can lead to some unfortunate standoffs) or (b) the person whose job is less demanding at the moment should do it.

I love a clean house, but if I’m putting in 14 hour days at work, forget it. Dust bunnies never killed anyone.

Of course, I live alone, so that means I have to do all the dang cleaning myself. Of course, I don’t also have a housemate to mess things up, either.
