The downside of high-speed rail

“The whole city would look like crap,” says Springfield Mayor Joe Quimby Tim Davlin.

Yeah, but people would get through that crap quickly.

(Via New Geography, which exercised enough restraint not to recommend a monorail instead.)

I travel through Springfield via rail a couple times a year.

While the whole city doesn’t currently look like crap (and I doubt that the recommended closures would cause that), there are certainly parts that do. (Amtrak is not known for going through the “garden spots” of cities…)

The State Capitol, however, is fairly pretty, even when you know about the sausage-making that goes on inside of it.

Springfield could have tried a monorail, but it would get split for some inexplicable reason.
