Perhaps I spend too much time on Yahoo! Answers. Confining myself to the Cars & Transportation and Computers & Internet categories was probably a good idea: the level of stupidity exhibited by some users is admittedly daunting, but it's limited in scope: for example, you know that roughly hslf the questions under C&T/Buying & Selling will be variations on "I owe $15000 on this car, can I trade for a new one?" No need to reinvent the wheel for each response when they're all basically the same.

But then there's Society & Culture, a world unto itself, a world about which you are constantly being tempted to ask the color of the sky. And the worst of S&C is the catchall: "Other — Society & Culture." Just a few recent items to warn you away:

"If a guy stares at boobs everyday, will he still find them sexual or no?"

"Why do most people hate the USA?"

"Why do blackpeopie take the N word so offensive ????"

"Wtf can I do with my life at this point? I used opiates for 13 years..?"

"Are there benefits to being the least desirable female demographic globally?"

"Is maintaining a heavy social media presence a good indication a man is homosexual?"

"PLEASE ANSWER ME IF SOMEBODY IN ANNOYANCE SAYS TO SOMEONE "I'M GOING TO F*CKING KILL YOU" JUST HOW ANGRY WOULD THEY BE?"

"Can you tell the physical differences between your average white dutch, german, swede, dane, and norwegian?"

"Why don't we gas mentally retarded and autistic people anymore?"

"Are most people useless or am I just around low-quality people?"

"Are people of low-class (ghetto trashy people) more prone to look down upon and talk bad about others?"

And so on, and so on, and scooby-dooby-doo. What all those questions have in common, apart from appearing in Other — Society & Culture in the last week, seems to ne this: every last one of them can be answered "Don't be such an asshole." This is one of the things that perplexes me about the Internet: as its reach approaches 100 percent, you get to hear from a whole lot of people who, were they not able to hide behind an IP address, would be fuming in their basements, the way they did for centuries before.

Not that I'm so damnably wonderful or anything. But now and then, I do go to the effort of not being an asshole. Sometimes I even succeed.
